Elite Athletes at Ooredoo Doha Marathon shed spotlight on Qatar’s Sports Tourism
The sixth edition of the Ooredoo Doha Marathon, held on Friday 12 January 2018, saw 2,400 participants from 83 nationalities take part. To help raise the event’s profile internationally, 19 elite athletes from across the globe were invited to participate in the half marathon event; they were competing for $50,000 in prize money, with equal prize funds for both the men’s and women’s events.
The marathon is Qatar’s largest mass-participation sports event and includes a full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K events for adults and youth as well as 3K and 1K events for children.
Qatar recognises sports’ power to bring people together and is using events such as this one to amplify its message of welcoming the world.
