Mammut athlete Beni Hug, from Switzerland and ski mountaineer Tony Sbalbi, from France, have just completed an awe-inspiring challenge by climbing the highest peaks in their respective native countries in under 50 hours. The route extends along the so-called Haute Route between Chamonix in France and Zermatt in Switzerland which normally takes several days to complete and involves making the entire 140km tour at altitudes of up to 13,902 meters, with a total of 14,622 ascent and descent meters to complete the challenge.
This record adds to the two endurance specialists May 2015 achievement when they climbed all seven peaks over 4,000 meters in the Swiss region of Aletsch in just 20 hours on touring skis. This was their personal best in that they climbed a total of 7,000 vertical meters and over a distance of about 65 km.
