Thursday 2nd November, Prague: Last night, the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC) celebrated outstanding sporting performances from the past year by athletes from Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania, Americas at this year’s ANOC Awards. 10 recipients were presented with awards for Best Male Athlete of 2017 and Best Female Athlete of 2017 from each continent as well as awards recognising Outstanding Performance, Outstanding Lifetime Achievement and Contribution to the Olympic Movement 2017.
The winners of the prestigious awards are as follows:
- Best Female Athlete from Africa 2017 - Farida Hisham Osman, Eygpt, Swimming
- Best Male Athlete from Africa 2017 - Chad Le Clos, South Africa, Swimming
- Best Female Athlete from the Americas 2017 - Yulimar Rojas, Venezuela, Athletics
- Best Male Athlete 2017 from the Americas - 4x400 relay team, Trinidad & Tobago, Athletics
- Best Female Athlete from Europe 2017 - Sarah Sjostrom, Sweden, Swimming
- Best Male Athlete from Europe 2017 - Marcel Hirscher, Austria, Alpine Skiing
- Best Female Athlete from Asia 2017 - Song Yu, China, Judo
- Best Male Athlete from Asia 2017 - Mutaz Essa Barshim, Qatar, Athletics
- Best Female Athlete from Oceania 2017 - Sarah Goss, New Zealand, Rugby Sevens
- Best Male Athlete from Oceania 2017 - Robbie Manson, New Zealand, Rowing
- Outstanding Performance 2017 - Nadia Comaneci, Gymnastics, Romania
- Outstanding Lifetime Achievement 2017 - Julio Maglione, Uruguayan Olympic Committee
Contribution to the Olympic Movement 2017 - Michael Fennell, Former President of the Jamaica Olympic Committee

The winners of each award were selected by the ANOC Jury from a shortlist provided by each of the Continental Associations. Continental Associations were asked to monitor athletes’ performances across the International Federations’ World Championships, World Cups and Grand Prix events which took place this year, and submit a shortlist to the Jury.
The ceremony took place in Prague’s state-of-the-art, multi-purpose venue, Forum Karlin, on 2 November 2017, and once again provided an opportunity to celebrate the exceptional work of NOCs (National Olympic Committees) and their athletes.The ANOC Awards 2017 took place on the occasion of the XXII ANOC General Assembly held in Prague. More than 1,300 senior-delegates from the Olympic Movement attended the General Assembly, including representatives from all 206 NOCs, International Federations, the IOC and OCOGs.
